Uni Hill for Winter Warmth

With my friend Felicity due to give birth at any minute, I headed over to Bundoora late last week to call in for a cuppa and to have a sneaky peek at what the Uni Hill Factory Outlets had in store for me this month. With winter just around the corner (don’t let that spring snap fool you!), I was on a mission to find some warmer things to keep me and my family cosy this season.

Having realised the day before that my duvet (or doona, but duvet sounds fancier) was coming up to ten years old (don’t worry, I have WASHED it during that time), I thought it might be high time it got replaced. We were using a microfibre version, but a little internet research told me feather and down was the way to go. I headed to Sheridan first up to quiz the sales lady about what she thought would best suit my bed.

Sheridan Queen Wool Quilt

After I detailed how I was freezing most nights, whilst my partner sprawled with his legs on top of the sheets, the girl in the store explained that a wool quilt was our best option for comfort all year round. As a natural fibre, wool is temperature regulating and has a better capacity to keep me warm while keeping him cool. Happiness all round. The Sheridan queen size 500gsm wool quilt was $189.95, but the store was offering 25% off – woo hoo!!

At the counter, the sales girl asked if I might like to become a Sheridan VIP – and with it, another 25% came off my quilt!! My super lush new duvet was now under $100 and I was rapt. Over the weekend we put it on the bed and were able to rid the room of the ugly grey blanket that has given us extra warmth the past two years. Best decision EVER.

Cotton On Kids, Novo, Form Home, Pure ZoneClockwise from top: Cotton On Kids gumboots $29.95; Oversized Mugs at Form Home, 60% off; Black brogues at Novo – Buy 1, get a 2nd pair for $10, and Jersey sheet sets at Pure Zone, from $40 (S).

Onto prettier things, I ogled the cutest gumboots for little feet at Cotton On Kids (wishing that my friend would have her baby so I can start buying cute little things!) and swooned over Pantone esque mugs at Form Home. Some dashing sparkly brogues caught my eye at Novo shoes, while the jersey sheet sets at Pure Zone floated my boat (and made me think how well they would go with my new quilt!)

But today my mission was things for winter, and for a man who is so hot whilst sleeping, my boyfriend has mentioned several times how cold he is during the day. At Giordano I snapped up a snazzy charcoal grey cardigan, complete with elbow patches. While it sounds like my boyfriend is a sixty year old science teacher, I assure you that the jacket has street cred and will win brownie points for any girl who brings it home. Onto Elwood Apparel, where I spotted a checked shirt that I knew he’d love (and another 5% off for signing up as a VIP!).

I am very popular this week. 🙂

So in case you had forgot, winter officially starts NEXT WEEK, on June 1st. Best you get yourself to Uni Hill for some layers before the cold really sets in!
