Beggar Man Thief

This week I celebrated my second anniversary in South Melbourne. I remember when I moved here, vividly, wondering if this sleepy little suburb would feel like home, how long I would stay, and if I would be happy here.

I can quite safely say I never want to live anywhere else. Ever. My favourite places are here and although my favourite people might be a little further away, I love the convenience of being able to walk everywhere, the lake, the market and shops.

One shop in particular holds much appeal for a good friend of mine. Beggar Man Thief has been in South Melbourne for a shorter time than I but has established itself as the go-to boutique for boys in the know. Top brand shoes that are fashionably understated, presented in a stylish store with a welcoming presence.

Scott Lewis and Marc Godfrey

Started by Marc Godfrey and Scott Lewis (formerly of Ozmosis fame), the shoe enthusiasts say their store is for the guy who is fashion conscious, but not fashion fixated. Guys who are intelligent and understated. Any man, really, who appreciates special things.

Beggar Man Thief stocks some of the highest quality footwear in the world, including Grenson and Loake, while locally, Andrew McDonald and Tristan Blair fly the flag for Aussie designers.

Loake Brogues $395

With such a unique selling proposition and a steady stream of regulars established in the South Melbourne local, Godfrey and Lewis are this month launching a little brother to Beggar Man Thief, The Canny Man, just around the corner.

The Canny Man pops up at the South Melbourne Market, from August 26, and will offer shoe shine and repairs, plus lifestyle products for the boys and end of season deals from Beggar Man Thief.
